If you think that paying over $100US to sleep in a tent and be given only water is a rip-off, then this style of racing isn't for you.
Actually, the logistics to a race like this are mind-boggling that just eat away at budgets.
The basic equipment to hold an event like this is huge. The money does NOT go on water. Water is provided to the race free of charge by our kind sponsors SWIRE BEVERAGES.
This is not the kind of race that you can use volunteer help on, the work is just too hard. Creating the campsite needs a team of hard-working individuals who need to be paid. Setting up and moving huge ten-man tents, generators, tables, lights in difficult terrain is above and beyond what you can ask of a volunteer.
The size of the race also demand enormous logistical reasources that gobble up dollar. We deliberatley choose places that are remote, but to do this we often have to pay to use private roads etc On top of this we have fuel charges, vehicle charges, permits, communications and a host of other things that whittle down entry fees..
