The Kowloon Mountain Express - KMX

The KMX will be held the weekend of March 22nd/23rd 2008

There's no denying it, The LMX was tough!

The combination of the relentless sun, no wind, rugged trails and distance, not to mention any insects, meant that the course far exceeded everyone's expectations.

In planning for The KMX we are conscious that if we make the course shorter and easier it will open up the race to a wider scope of racers.  However, we are also very conscious that this style of racing is tough AND is not for everyone, plus, the style of racing is limited by the enormous logistics needed to pull it together.

Our principle goal in designing the LMX course was to take trail-runners on tracks they've never been on and give them out off the ordinary experiences.  I'm sure all who took part in the LMX will agree that they experienced many new things, some better than others, some worse!

In designing The KMX, our principle goal will be to take you to places you may not ordinarily go.

With so many established races weaving across HK, we strongly believe that we have to offer a race that has a strong element of adventure and uncertainty.

Saying this, we will alter the race format a little, based on our experiences and your feedback.

  1. The Race will be shorter. The route will be 30k on the first
day and 45k on the second.
  2. The first day will start much earlier. 8am
  3. We will have more un-manned CPs and water points
  4. Maps will be compulsory
  5. We will not mark the course.  But will issue exact co-ordinates for all the checkpoints.
  6. It will be up to the racers to pick the best way to reach each CP
  7. If we use rugged tracks we will cut back the brush more, prior to the race
  8. Each race will be different.  We will change the course every year
  9. We will give more detailed briefings of the course

Things we wont do

  1. We won't provide anything more than water and tents
  2. We won't release the exact course prior to the event.  Just a rough guide
  3. We will release the co-ordinates for the course two weeks prior to the event
  4. We won't use a campsite with a toilet block

So what can you expect for the KMX in March

We can tell you now that The KMX will start in the far North West of Hong Kong, and we will take you through the HK Wetlands.  Racers will meet in Kowloon and be bussed to the start location.

The race will then weave into the heart of the New Territores to an undisclosed location for the Tent Village.

The finish will be in Clear Water Bay Country Park. See Map
